Importance of Asking For Help
We’ve all heard the phrase, that if you want something done right, then do it yourself and more recently the mantra has become, I am enough. But have you ever been around someone who must have everything done their way? Have you ever worked with someone who truly believes that they are enough? That they are all their team needs? If so, then you know it doesn’t work!
See, when everything must be done our way or when we truly believe that we are enough, we selfishly put our desires above the team, we micromanage the crap out of our people, we avoid responsibility, and we burn ourselves out in the process.
But the thing is, we can never do it all, your way doesn’t mean it’s the only way, we all screw up and none of us are enough!
Now, this doesn’t mean that we don’t have a standard of excellence to pursue, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have value, or that you aren’t unique. It just means that we all need and require help!
For instance, the greatest organizations I ever worked for, rarely dictated orders, instead, they sought the advice and feedback from the group and then held us accountable to that standard. And the greatest teams I ever coached, consisted of players, coaches, and families, who sacrificed whatever was required, for the team’s betterment.
Seeking support for success
See, we are social creatures that require a connection. We need a community to keep us safe, hold us accountable, fill our weaknesses, and make us feel loved. And when we understand that we need others, we invite people in, relinquish control, take responsibility, and give more than we thought possible, b/c we don’t want to let others down!
By our willingness to seek help, we create a team, build a community, and construct a foundation strong enough to weather any storm.
So, if you want to win, make an impact, and enjoy all that this world has to offer, stop attempting to do everything yourself, stop acting like you are all you need, and instead, ask for help!
